Flamenco Bass Workshop with Mariano Martos

On US tour, bassist Mariano Martos has performed with some of the today’s greatest flamenco artists. On November 15, he will, both, perform with Bay Area’s ensemble Potaje and give a workshop for bassists interested in learning about the bass in flamenco music. His flamenco book on this topic, “Método de Bajo Flamenco”, published last year in Spain by RGB Audio Visual (www.flamencolive.com), is the first comprehensive method in the field.

This workshop will focus on four flamenco styles or “palos”: bulerías, tangos, rumba and tanguillos. Participants will work on flamenco bass techniques, accompaniment patterns and variations, rhythmic and harmonic structures and soloing. There will be a maximum of 10 participants.
When: Sunday, November 15, 11:00am-2:30pm
Where: Community Music Center
